Biography
Vuk Mitevski is Macedonian artist and director. In 2005, he graduated from Bennington College for Liberal Arts, United States, where he specialised in sculpture, painting, and set design, education with a strong emphasis on the artist's personal development.
2005 he participated in the Biennale for young artists from Europe and the Mediterranean, where he was awarded by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Naples, Italy, whereby one of his works was included as part of their collection. He lived and worked in New York until 2006.
His first solo exhibition Crucifixion after S.M. Eisenstein was held in the Macedonian Army's Gallery in 1998. Saints was his 2006 exhibition at the MC Gallery, New York, USA. With the support of the Macedonian Ministry of Culture, he presented the project Light in the Macedonian National Gallery in 2009, Nord Art 2010 in Germany featured this project.
His greatest challenge and inspiration are animated films. His last animated short film Edna (2019), has won the European Film Academy's EFA award. The animated film Alerik (2013), a project supported by the Robert Bosch Foundation, has been shown at over 60 international film festivals and has received numerous awards and recognitions.
In 2001, Vuk and his sisters Teona and Labina, established the film production company Sisters & brother Mitevski - a family run production company based in Macedonia, comprised of an actress/producer, a director, and a set designer/art director. They are primarily interested in producing art house films for international distribution.
The company produced short, feature, documentary and animation films that won numerous awards on festivals worldwide. All their feature films are complex and successful co-production projects. In 2019 at Berlin Film Festival (Main competition), their film God exists, her name is Petrunya, won two prestigious awards: Ecumenical Jury Prize and Guild Film Prize. In 2022 at Venice Film festival (Orizzonti), they successfully lunched the new film by Teona S. Mitevska The happiest man in the world.
He is currently living in Macedonia, working on a new project titled Old man watches TV - mix media technique - stop animation (frame by frame) and drawing.
